Tweaks, Hard Work, and the SERPs

I am not a big believer in building strategy from industry blogs. Sure I read them, but what I like is real world data and analysis. That being said I read Barry’s post from two days ago, “Google: A Single Tweak Won’t Boost Your Search Rankings” and couldn’t agree more.

The amount of ranking factors and their percentage of influence has such a high degree of variance for each keyword and industry that tactical tweaks remain just that…a tactic to be washed away with the next change or most likely non effective to begin with.  The best approach is to build long term strategies that incorporate social media and deep search engine analysis.  Of course this approach necessitates clients that are in it for the long haul and do not expect immediate results.
